Playing a Zone Defense!

Ah, the quiet times of summer...

The plan for Thursday was to take a short drive to St. Louis and have time before the Cardinals game, I have no idea why we thought this would actually happen! Jimmy stepped up big and took the red-headed beast with him to get the oil changed in the car early in the am. Should I have done this before we left? Possibly. After waiting for an hour and a half and then waiting for breakfast at Chick-fil-A (what?!?!? this never happens in D-ville), he came back to the hotel and found us packed and ready to go, just kidding we were still sleeping!
Eventually (i.e. way later than planned) we headed out for St. Louis, not surprisingly the ones who slept in were hungry. So we found a Buffalo Wild Wings for a quick lunch...I mean lunch. It turns out that this particular restaurant had just opened on Monday and was still working out the kinks, things like putting salad dressing on a salad:) However, I thoroughly enjoyed my lemon pepper wings and the kids loved the hats!
A quick two hours later we were in St. Louis, with just enough time to drop our stuff at the hotel and catch the Redbird Express to the game. This was fun for several reasons: we didn't have to drive, park, or pay for parking, but mostly it was great scenery and people watching! Thanks to our race-car driver/ bus driver, we made it to the game in record time (not a great feeling on a bus)! We hit the Ballpark Village and the fun began, first it was slightly hot (like my face was melting off hot), the kids were in rare form (a SCARY thing for those of you who know my children) and the gates were not open yet! We eventually got into Busch Stadium and did almost a full lap before my children had seen 347 things they NEEDED!
We did have a great time at the game and again on the bus ride home, which prompted Jimmy and I to start a list entitled:
Things our Kids would Prefer to do besides the Expensive Activity We have Already Paid For:
Ride on public transportation (in this case a bus)
Go to a pool - any pool, even an indoor pool that feels like it is composed of 100% chlorine
Play in a sprinkler (or in this instance a fire hydrant)
Hang out at a Chick-fil-A playground
We will continue to add to this as it occurs to us!

And whoever says kids aren't smart, is lying! I truly believe that Jace and Ella (and soon enough Griffin) can see when Mommy is considering making a run for it and they select that exact moment to do something adorable. Like see a fire hydrant spraying water and run through it together. I know I am not alone because I heard the same message from one of my favorite bloggers last night. Check out Lauren McBride's blog and her IG, where she talks about setting low expectations for getting things done with kids, so that you are never disappointed (and sometimes even pleasantly surprised)! For example, the joy of the fire hydrant...
Friday was not a FRI-YAY for me, as I hung out in the hotel room and worked... and worked... and worked. Again my saint of a husband stepped up and took all three kids sight-seeing and in exciting news all three made it back again. They even made it to some educational sites (that Arch) and some more questionable locations (Anheuser Busch tour). But like I said they all made it back in four distinct pieces. When they returned in the afternoon we spent some time at the aforementioned chlorine pit and then did something Mommy loves - made a Target run!!!!!
So tomorrow we reach the main destination of our vacation, Omaha and the College World Series. We are planning on leaving at the crack so that we can get there at a decent hour, because you know three kids and a 6.5 hour car drive - what could go wrong?
