Being a Stay at Home Mom is Easy*

* Or thoughts I have previously had that are 100% false! These include things such as, if I had more free time I would be in great shape (so not true), I will eat less when I am an administrator (FALSE - in the classroom I at least had the restraint to not embarrass myself in front of my kids).
So I will just file this misconception about staying home with my kids along with the other 1% of times I am wrong.
Being home with the kids this summer has been an eye-opening experience. Maybe it is the three kids at three different stages (or maybe the nine nights in a one room hotel room), but this year feels harder. If the one-year old isn't choking on a nickel (or a nail he found in the bathroom?), then the five-year old is walking into a column between the kitchen and living room that she somehow did not see today or the ten-year old is having an allergic reaction to a friend's dog. My hat's off to the people that regularly keep these three kids out of trouble and return them home to me every day!
And on a side note I am an absolute FREAK of nature when it comes to Jace and allergies. Although anyone who has known us for a while knows that I come by this honestly (as in puffy lips, ER visits, IVs, etc). And there was the one time we rode in a helicopter from CHOA in Forsyth to Scottish Rite. End side note.
Also, I know that I am not fleet of foot, but why are babies so fast?? Griffin is like a blood hound for any small object that could potentially get lodged in his throat. I think he might actually be starting to feel bad for me, because now he will chew on said items for a while and then hand them to me when he is done. That is about a ZERO on the mom-o-meter! Griff's newest hobby is actually reassuring, because it is something both older kids used to do, which is find small spaces and crawl right in. I can still remember the absolute terror I felt the first time I discovered a toddler-aged Jace asleep in his closet (door closed and no clue as to where he might have been)!! So now it is time for Griffin to follow in this glorious tradition.
Now I do have my moments of being a superstar mom. In fact, we have been eating healthy, homemade items (I might write a cookbook about zoodles - just kidding I only cook them one way!) and Jace and Ella have been playing together (for short spurts of time). Here is Ella working on an almond milk smoothie to replace the store bought fruit pops or candy (yay me)! And Jimmy contributes amazing skills as well, like tickling the kids by just pointing a finger! Currently, both Ella and Griff are laying on the floor in my office giggling in anticipation (yay Daddy)!
So July 13th I go back on contract and I will breath a sigh of relief to know that someone else is watching my children! Hopefully someone faster and a bit more observant. And to all the moms (whatever your day to day might look like) good job! We are all doing the best we can for our kids and that is an amazing feat!
Until then if I can make it until they put themselves to sleep, I should be fine.
